A small raised stand of Japanese cedar, the grain left visible, with chrysanthemums built up on its sides in gofun relief by a certified traditional craftsman. A gozen is the little table on which one person's meal, or one precious object, is presented. This one is 4.3 inches square: the right size to lift a single cup, a clam box, or a sprig of chrysanthemum above the surface of a table or shelf.
Wood darkens gently with age, and every piece has its own grain.
