An oshiki is the flat wooden tray that defines one person's place at a formal Japanese table. This one is Japanese cedar, 6 inches square, with a chrysanthemum built up in gofun relief by a certified traditional craftsman. Set a sake cup and a small plate on it and the table is arranged; set a clam box or a single flower on it and a shelf is arranged.
Wood darkens gently with age, and every piece has its own grain.
