The scene inside is the famous sumo match from the Choju-giga, the twelfth-century animal scrolls of Kozan-ji temple in Kyoto and a National Treasure: the frog has just thrown the rabbit, and is delighted about it. Painted by hand, brushstroke by brushstroke. The outside is carved all over with arabesque, so the bowl is finished from every angle. This is the large bowl; with the small it makes a couple's pair, and a good gift. Microwave and dishwasher safe.
