On the night of the harvest moon, Japanese families set out a small pyramid of white rice dumplings as an offering to the moon. This is that offering, made to last: fifteen little dumplings of unglazed ceramic, each wrapped by hand in white chirimen crepe, stacked on a miniature sanpo stand with a sheet of washi. Made in Kyoto.
It fits in the palm of your hand. Put it on the windowsill facing the moon.
