The same sanpo-shaped serving stand in tame, the deep lacquer finish built up in layers that reads as black until the light catches it and it turns the color of dark plum. Gold rim. Made in Japan of resin lacquerware: light, chip-resistant, stacks away in a cupboard.
The offering stand for the moon-viewing dumplings and the New Year rice cakes, and for the rest of the year a footed plate that makes sweets or fruit look like a course. Hand wash.

It looks far more expensive than the price. There is a lovely gloss, and a faint red shows through the black depending on the light, which I love. I used it for our New Year rice cakes.
