WELCOME TO YUWEN

We are a company specializing in an online shop that offers Japanese tableware, lifestyle goods and handcrafted items. Our office is in Ebisu, Tokyo, but we carefully curate products from all over Japan: porcelain from Arita, Hasami and Kutani, lacquer from Echizen, textiles from Kyoto, and the work of small kilns whose names are known mostly to their neighbors.

In addition to our selection, we develop YUWEN original items that blend tradition with modern design. Our mission is to share the beauty of Japanese traditions and craftsmanship with the world, and we strive every day to achieve that goal.

The name

YUWEN is written in Japanese as 所以. Its meaning is closely related to "meaning" and "origin." Even the simplest vessel has its own meaning and origin, shaped by tradition, history and what has been handed down. We hope you can sense not only the object itself, but also the story of why it exists.

Where we come from

YUWEN is the overseas house of FOURGRACE, a Tokyo tableware brand followed by more than 230,000 people in Japan. For years we have chosen pieces for Japanese homes that like to set the table with the season: cherry blossom in spring, the moon in September, gold and pine at New Year. YUWEN brings that same edit to you, selected for how it sits beside a glass of wine or a plate of cheese as much as a bowl of rice.

Three things we hold to

Made in Japan, always. Every piece we sell is made in Japan, and the region is named on every product page. If it is not, we do not sell it.

No surprises at the door. Prices for the United States include import duties. Shipping is calculated at checkout, and every parcel leaves Tokyo tracked.

Packed by hand. Porcelain travels badly unless someone takes care. We wrap every piece ourselves, and if anything arrives broken, we replace it.
