The scene inside is the famous sumo match from the Choju-giga, the twelfth-century animal scrolls of Kozan-ji temple in Kyoto and a National Treasure: the frog has just thrown the rabbit, and is delighted about it. Painted by hand, brushstroke by brushstroke. The outside is carved all over with arabesque, so the bowl is finished from every angle. This is the small bowl; with the large it makes a couple's pair, and a good gift. Microwave and dishwasher safe.

The fine carved arabesque and the charm of the Choju-giga animals in one bowl is wonderful. Picking up my rice bowl has become a pleasure.

Lovely ^_^ It is fairly thin, so I use it carefully every day so it doesn't break. It was smaller than I expected, but the pattern and the bowl itself are so nice that this time I bought the large one too.

I bought it for myself. I like the size and the thinness.
