A lidded bowl in glossy vermilion with a single band of gold kasuri, the brushed, broken line borrowed from ikat cloth, and a black interior with a gold rim. Lift the lid and the steam from the miso soup comes up with it, which is the point of a lidded bowl. About 250 ml, the right size for miso or a clear soup, and it belongs equally on a weekday tray and a New Year one. Made of heat-resistant ABS resin in the Echizen lacquerware tradition, so it is light, tough and easy to handle.
