A soup bowl in the lily shape, flaring slightly at the lip, in the deep persimmon red of old Japanese lacquer with a gold chrysanthemum and a gold rim. Made for FOURGRACE in Echizen, Fukui, the town that has made Japan's lacquerware for a thousand years. Miso soup is what it is for; it holds a generous 340 ml, so a small stew or a rice-and-broth dish works too. The lip is smooth against the mouth, which matters more than it sounds.
Modern heat-resistant resin lacquerware: light, warm to hold, will not chip. Hand wash; not for the dishwasher or microwave.
