A mottled glaze gives this matcha bowl an irregular pattern, with darker and lighter areas across the surface. The finish adds visual texture to its simple upright form.
Made from porcelain in Hasami, Nagasaki, it measures approximately 12.5 cm wide and 7.2 cm high, and weighs 245 g. It is a choice for those who enjoy a less uniform glazed finish.
A wooden box is included for storage or gifting.

Where it comes from. Hasami, a valley town in Nagasaki that has fired porcelain for over 400 years. It never made showpieces for a lord; it made everyday bowls for ordinary kitchens, and that habit of practical, light, strong porcelain is still in everything the town produces.
How it is made. Thrown from porcelain, then dressed with a glaze that is meant to move. In the kiln it softens, runs and pools, leaving the mottled, weathered surface you see. Heat and gravity decide the pattern, so no two bowls carry the same marks.
Why this shape. The straight-sided cylinder is the winter form of the tea bowl: the tall wall keeps the tea hot and hides its surface so the drinker is not distracted. The sides are thinned so the bowl is lighter than it looks, which matters when it is cradled in two hands.
How it is used in Japan. A working bowl for daily matcha, used and rinsed and put back on the shelf. The wooden box is how a tea bowl is stored and given in Japan, not a display case.
On your table. Matcha first, but it is an equally good bowl for miso soup, a single serving of rice with toppings, or a café-au-lait on a cold morning. Hand wash; no microwave.
